It’s common that foreign residents in Korea are restricted to use services for locals.

This time I was planning a trip to Japan and coincidentally hear about this new travel cash card.

In Korea going cashless is a second nature, the thought of dealing with physical currency during travels can be a bit daunting. Not to mention the struggle of deciphering foreign coins!

(Yes, I've been there, asking locals for coin value assistance, too!)

How to get Travel Wallet, A Step-by-Step Guide

For fellow global explorers keen on embracing the cashless travel revolution,

here's a quick guide on obtaining your Travel Wallet:

Warning!

You must have a valid visa, internet banking and phone under your name.

*The app is available only in Korean.

 

 

 

1. Install the Travel Wallet App: Head to your app store and download the Travel Wallet app.

2. Accept the Services: Agree to the app's services. Remember 선택 are optional you only have to select 필수.

​

​

 

 

3. Register Your Information: Use your foreigner registration number instead of the resident registration number and complete the validation process.

​

Link Your Bank Account: Connect your bank account to streamline your transactions.

 

​

 

 

5. Verification Process: Verify your identity; if you lack a Naver or Kakao certificate, opt for the call verification option.

 

​

 

 

6. Secure Your Account: Input your email and the code sent to your bank account through a 1-won deposit and set up a 6-digit password.

7. Create Your Wallet: Bring your wallet to life by finalizing the creation process.

8. Document Submission: Capture a snapshot of your alien card and fill in the required details, ensuring your name is without spaces*. Be careful how you input your long foreign name.

9. Apply for Your Card: Choose between credit and debit; I opted for the free debit card.

10. Fast Processing: I applied on a Wednesday and had my card in hand by Monday.
